PodcampNYC is coming April 25-26... Bring the Thunder to Brooklyn!!

I say alleged because I have become increasing aware of just how easy it is for power to corrupt. I don't think social programs' ostensible goals are the intent of those who expect governments to fund them. So yeah, people are awesome and good, but there's a huge parasite squashing their goodness and using the perception that we all need to be protected from each other to keep it down. Check out mises.org if you have time.
Digg It!
http://digg.com/people/April_3rd_2008_is_GOOD_P...
Heh... Just realised that due to my timezone (I'm in the UK) it already is the 3rd here... I'll get on it once I've had some sleep though, gotta recharge myself if I'm going to put a fraction of the energy you seem to have into this :)
In my experience, trying to point out 'those who are good' often means forgetting others who are, and making them feel excluded and unvalued.
I would never participate in something that had the potential for me to hurt someone by leaving someone else out who also deserved recognition - but relied upon my memory.
The oscar speech for me is "Thank you to everyone - my friends, my family, and all those who made this possible" - but there would never be a list, lest I forget someone who would be forever hurt by their exclusion.
Yeah, think on that why don't ya' ;)
And Gary, after all your videos I've just seen today (I'm a new fan of yours from twitter) - I'm so impressed and you are such an inspiration.
thanks Gary!
I really love this idea of yours - official "Good People Day!!" neat! we need more cool days like this.
Thank you for honoring the GOOD people out there. Shifting the focus away from the "bad" - which see all too much of everyday already in this day and time- is a much welcome change that is long overdue.
Well, let me get a jump on tomorrow's festivities... YOU should be honored right at the top of the list of "GOOD people" to be honored.
Thanks~!

Here's short but deep piece that describes why I believe social media is a movement not a marketplace.

All the best,
and this sounds like a good idea ,soi'm in.

Call me pollyanna, but it is the best way to live. I like to live like every day is good people day. ;)
Thanks Gary, for passing on the positive vibes & coming up with this idea!
So, today, tomorrow, and on the 3rd and for many many days after that let us continue to shine in our own unique way and let people know how much we appreciate them all.
awesome idea! Count me in - Twittering and blogging about nothing but good peeps tomorrow!! :)
GPD08 on!
btw, at the risk of jumping the gun... I guess this list qualifies you as a good person too!!! (even though I don't know you yet)
Cheers,
Soren

That being said, when one is filled with such a wonderful inspirational opinion and also has the ability to mobilize such a community, a bit more research might be done to see if this can coincide with another, equally as important idea/cause.
Did you know that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month? And specifically April 3 2008 is the Day of Action: A Day to End Sexual Violence (http://tinyurl.com/2oft8h). Why should the simple push to point out good people overshadow that? And why couldn't they co-exist and play off each other?
Thus I challenge anyone participating in Gary's GPD2008 to also talk to someone about sexual violence. My local community in particular is participating in a "Can We Talk?" campaign asking each person to talk to at least one other about sexual violence, in any capacity on any variable subject. I hope you can see where I am going with this and the natural connection that can and should occur. If you are already calling on people to reach out and touch someone and act positively, then incorporate such an important cause which already was asking to use the day to do the same.

Cheers Everybody + Peace* ;))
Here´s my first comment of the day about good people. This guy, this very guy is a GOOOOD person. He inspired me from the moment I saw him interviewed: Aaron Jackson. www.plantingpeace.org
Btw, Gary, I´m thinking: this speaking of good people naturally leads to BE GRATEFUL.
We should do a ¨Be Grateful Day¨.
Thanks for the initiative!
Thank you Gary.
OK, I'm in! I can't think of a more inspiring way to leverage the power of social media than furthering the cause of human potential. Ohhh.....who shall I write about?!?! You rock!
Holly (hollyk on Twitter)
You seem a bit stressed in the video though. Take a breath, man! Get some R&R. :)
Gary, a kewl idea. I'm in. At the risk of "excluding" others who deserve the same kudos, I'll START with three people in my life who are Good People (without a doubt).
1. My boss! Yes, you read that right... Many people just don't "like" their boss, or they can't wait to leave their job, or (^*#!, snarl, gripe, groan, whimper, whine, whaaa, etc.) I am very fortunate to have a boss who cares about me as a human being first, then as a worker & professional member of his team. Donald Cook! I doubt he has a Twitter account (yet), but we'll work on that, OK? A Shout Out to a caring boss and a Good Person - Mr. Donald Cook, Arl, VA. GPD08-1.
2. The young guy who serves as a lifeguard at our Community Clubhouse during the day/early evening (indoor pool and hot tub). Although he has a very long, boring day he is always friendly, serious, smiling, alert, and on watch. He is a Good Person, helping others as a lifeguard (for our HOA).
GPD08-2.
3. Recently, I had the pleasure to reunite with a long lost friend who also lives in the NCR (near Wash, DC). I looked her up on LinkedIn and found her working less than ONE MILE from where I work in Arlington; can you say serendipity? I had dinner with her, her beau, and her DAD who happened to be in town then for a short visit. While she is *also* a Good Person, I'll talk about her later. Her father is one of my former pastors from my younger days near Lake Norman, NC. A Shout Out to Dr. Paul Kercher, one of my favorite people who influenced me when I was young. It was as if time stood still and the only thing that had changed was our ages. I look forward to our next visit and catching up with his entire family and my childhood friend. Good PEOPLE! GPD08-3.
Gary, I don't need to mention you as that is a given. ;-)
Cheers,
Cheri (aka "DoxieDenDiva", thanks to YOU, GaryVee)

p.s. Let's hear from you, folks. Who do you think are Good People in your life?
2.
If you keep going strong like that I might even send you some vino I'm passionate about :-)

THREE CHEERS FOR GOOD PEOPLE!!
hip hip, HOORAY! hip hip HOORAY! hip hip HOORAY!
this is a very laudable initiative and hope this develops into a real online-affirmation movement that could also be translated offline...

I have many great people in my life which makes it difficult to single out one so I'll go with two. My sons, Tyler and Heath, they have opened my eyes and taught me many life lessons. Tyler's compassion for humanity and love for us crazy humans. A friend of his once said, it's as though it's all he's ever known, she pegged it.
And Heath, his spirit and smiles infectious. To know him is to love him. I know I'm partial but they make our world a greater place to be.

I hope that you'll make a complete list of everyone who took part today--it'll be good for some link love if we copy and paste it to our blogs and spread the message.
Andy Stuckey and Katherine Slingluff
When my girlfriend Laura and I moved to New York City almost eight months ago we had no jobs, no apartment and big plans. My cousin Andy and his wife Katherine live in Brooklyn and happened to be out of town for two weeks just after we arrived in the city. They basically GAVE us their wonderful apartment for two weeks so we could get settled in . It was such a kind, humbling gesture and I know we’ll never be able to pay them back…but we’ll try! Thanks so much to Andy and Katherine for being Good People.
Check their websites too...

My Bored Friends
Also…I am a stand-up comedian. I moved to New York to further my career in comedy and I perform a lot around the city. So I’d like to thank all of my friends that KEEP coming to see me perform in New York. You guys are the best and I love you like crazy!

Bummer, I missed the memo late last night / early AM when a "Professional Blogger" ripped of some photos of mine and some of my twitter / flickr friends. (after blogging about infringement 6 times)
So my blog post was "don't be a bad person" ....However there is the flip side of using photos from photographers. I would LOVE to have more people ASk to use my photos and ME say "Yes" just hook up a link and we'll help eachother out. Many people do this, and I will post some tips on "How photographers's and Bloggers can be friends" (afterall I am Both!)

What a great idea for an internet holiday!
On a side note, how awesome is it to look at a person's eyes when they're seeing a vision of something that can be? :-D
I have just recently begun watching your videos and following you on Twitter and you have already become the nicest guy I have ever come across. I love your positive attitude towards life and warm personality. You're definitely "good people" in my book.

You suck.
Good people day should be everyday... we should recognize good people and show how grateful we are to have these good people in our lives every second of the day... that's what it's all about afterall... isn't it?
- Trevor
How about GDP08 EVERY Wednesday? You rock for sure. It's on now. *-)
Good luck to you! ..and everybody else: Try to be good & spread the love. And if you'd spend half of the time you think about SEO doing local community work, the world would be a better place ; )
Seriously everyone, stop making up random days. Just learn to respect the people you meet, dont backbite, and stop worrying so much about little things.
Being "good" is not about getting recognition for it. You do it because that is the type of person you are.
You're right though, we need to stop all the Yellowtail madness.
Rock on!
