Gary Vaynerchuk - Is Effort enough to Scale?
I think way too many...
Awesome rule. Engraved on my brain cells.
...my upset pick Belmont just lost, I have to go cry now.
Soon it'll be time for team green to get very mean!
Pai
Thanks Gary
Live Awesome!
Kevin
Excellent post. I wholeheartedly agree. I think you getting out there and doing these video blogs is one of the reasons I will finally get the courage to do videoblogging as well. Certain personalities work really well with videoblogging. Yours is definitely one of them. No wonder you are so popular! :)
I wrote a post recently called "How I Tripled My Blog's Traffic In Two Months." I think we have similar opinions, though I expanded on your points a bit by explaining a few ways I drove traffic to my blog. Here is the post -- I'd love your opinion if you have a few minutes:

I have subscribed to your blog and will continue to read it. Thanks again for the great post!

i hope you know it's appreciated
oh and, GO GREEN!
Thanks Gary - you rock!
Absolutely stellar. What I loved most about this post was how it shattered my preconceived notion of what you would be talking about with 80/20.
I encountered an 80/20 rule not nearly as awesome (and I don't mean 80's ninja turtles awesome, I mean biblically awesome). It was, that the final 20% perceived work effort can be more challenging than the first 80, so you may as well launch prematurely and save the rest for version 2.
But then, to read your post about over-delivering on every occasion, [sighs]... Exactly what I need to hear. I feel like the status is getting ever more quo. It is refreshing to hear ya preach (even when to the choir).
Don't go changin'
It's just keeping it all in perspective and balanced. Funny though is that it's 80/20 not 50/50 but that's what you end up with. :-)
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that this video was dead on, man. You really rocked it! THANK YOU for making the time I spent here extremely worth it.
Keep up the awesome work my friend.
I have a lot of people who tell me I am their mentor and inspiration and that makes it all worth it. But this week, I resigned from the semantic name of community manager and said I no longer manage this space, I am an user advocate and a developer liaison. I removed myself from the blog because I feel that my street cred and my brand don't need to be attached to something I no longer believe in. I believe in the people and that blog was not speaking to that when the other CM wrote on it using the term "WE".
I do believe my blog is good enough to stand on its own as a brand. So I am going to continue advocacy from that platform. Since (semi-meeting) you, I feel like I am on a better path to just speaking about what I believe in for the users and what I can do for them. Its never been about me and your words tonight make me feel so much better.
Best thing I've seen all week.
I like watching these videos. You are one hell of a motivator.
Oh, and @verygreenteam FTW
Oh, but I'm not so very pumped to join the very green team... RedTeam for life! http://twitter.com/redteam

http://www.vimeo.com/802493 - great chat at sxsw! :)
You are a RockStar! I want to be you when I grow up.
Keep this stuff coming.
Along the same lines, think about your biz decisions screened through the four absolutes: Honesty. Unselfishness. Love. Purity. With every ask action and decision, ask yourself, "Is it?"
Carry on!
This turned B-School 80/20 on its head. 80/20 B-School version also known as the power rule is the first 80% of the work gets done with 20% of the effort. The gist being, get the big ideas down, set up an outline and plan but don't worry too much about every detail.
The other version of the 80/20 rule is that you can build a business to a certain point before it grows to be too large. 80% of sales and profits are made by 20% of the businesses out there.
I think your version is a much better philosophy than these rules especially if you are in a business of satisfying client demands, personal demands, etc. It is unnatural to put 80% of the effort into a partnership, marriage, business relationship, friendship or whatever. More often people put in 30% or 40% of the effort and expect the other side to pick up the slack which means there is a weak relationship. Taking personal responsibility to be the torch bearer in any relationship is a novel concept which I think will make each relationship better on the whole.
"Fame will break your heart brother...
But creativity is passion, And it's endless.
You look for fame, you'll lose your soul. You look for creation, you'll find it."
Yes. I get it. I live it.
Funny how hard it is to find those that will honestly give you even 20%, but when you do find them, you hold on to them like gold.
Actually hold on to the relationship, so you can share it with others.
I've got a list of companies that I recommend without hesitation because I know how they will treat their customers. You mentioned a few.
When I watch videos, I watch people. When I deal with companies, I deal with people.
Go @verygreenteam !

And, doing what you believe in does pay off. I love producing Gardenfork and it really resonates with people. Even Gary watches.
eric.
It also turns out that people are happier when they are giving then receiving. So even if you don't get everything you ever wanted, you still win in the end.
Peace.
You, Scoble, Rose et al should come over the mountains to SONOMA and bag the Napa thang!
"When in doubt, GIVE."
When you give, you actually receive. That seems to be the heart of what you've said here, isn't it?
Thanks for being a giver, Gary! Hah, Giver Gary.
Spoken like the "real deal" that you are... this is another excellent insight into the way you roll... from the heart, without BS and without the focus on yourself and your biz.
After meeting you in Orlando (SP Live 08) and changing the focus of what I was about to do, I consider your approach daily. I'm adopting your 80/20 rule on the new "glide" slope. Chat later. Keep up the good work, @GaryVee!
Genuine words. (Rare these days, especially online where scamsters can prey upon some gullible and unsuspecting folks). I'm following you on Twitter. What's up with @SantaGaryVee? How about a sneak peak, eh Gary? Thx.

Cheri

I've signed on more business in a three-month span of posting free tips on marketing, branding and fooding then I had in the 2.5 years I'd been in business before that, where I'd followed the advice of coaches who told me to hold back on info-sharing.
I can honestly say my biz is living proof that your theory works. I'm encouraged to keep the momentum going, at least "until I bleed out of my face..."
I subscribed and I look forward to your next post Gary :)
I'm a college student working hard and just enjoying life. I love your philosophy on life and every time I hear it on WLTV or read about on a blog it checks me back into reality. Thanks for everything!
I'd like to borrow you for 2 weeks while I get my coworking business off the ground. You are so inspirational. I see why I added you on Twitter and I will be 'friending you up' in several other places. I hope I can give back to you and the rest of this huge community as well as you just did for all of us.
Thank you
Lisa
Like 80% of your sales come from 20% of your clients
It was not mean to work in reverse (e.g. 80% of the causes, or as you put it work then net 20% of the effects) - that would be counterintuitive...
Thank you for all you do.
For example, if I look at five things I have to do today, only one of those will be vital. If I concentrate on that one thing, I get back 4x from all the other four activities combined.
Now, the rest of what you had to say I agree with completely, and I am working hard to make it all work in my life and business.
(Incidentally, that's the most important part, but everyone who knows me knows I'm a pain in the *ss.) :)
