I agree 100%. There are going to be some issues with 3rd party apps like TweetDeck, but am confident they will find a way to bring the ad focus into the 3rd party apps so they get a piece of the ad pie as well.

Social Media is here to stay folks, and it is only going to get bigger and bigger!

I am surprised we have not seen Google make a big play to grab Twitter, but regardless, the folks behind Twitter are in an amazing position to change the face of the internet for a long time to come!

I am curious to see how this plays out. Are people that are searching twitter really in a buying mode? I could see people searching a product before buying to see if people were on twitter ranting and raving about it.

It's interesting how Twitter is pulling plays from two of the lost lucrative ideas in the internet to date, Blogging and Search Engines. I'd like to see some sort of all encompassing search engine or platform centered around internet media content.

As soon as I saw the new home page, I said to myself, "this is going to get very interesting." I think they're aiming to go after Google, but whatever they're doing is going to be very interesting to watch play out.

As long as they don't compromise the social aspect of the site (which is already done sufficiently with spammers), they should do anything they can to monetize. I honestly don't know why they haven't implemented on this sooner.

It's certainly a step forward but unless twitter start to sort out their issues with twitter spam what's the point of searching through shitty content. It isn't a huge problem now but I fear it will be soon.

I don’t buy it. Nice sensationalism, but not well argued. This is not the real revenue model.

In contrast I totally buy your “short term” topical high priced comment per your Jacko example. Here you are bang on the money, but I’m unconvinced Twitter = Google killer (as a pure Ad play)

Hey Gary, I don't mind the commercials before your videos, but this one was for "Holidate", a new series on Soapnet. I think it'd be fair to say your audience for these posts is the business community, so reality television and soap operas are a poorly targeted fit.

I know you can crush it and do better! You must have some ad sales people over there?

I have slowly started transfering my search usage to twitter and bing. It is just a matter of time before all the crowds start searching twitter. Competive landscape is great for all of us (end-user). We are going to have an insane way of searching in the next few years.

Totally agree with u gary - I can see the difference already when I'm using my twitter account re: searches

I think that this will revolutionize they way peeps will do their social media business. Personally I'm 9 months in2 using twitter and these last few days have been my most productive in working on a niche of followers associated to my field - which happens to be wine. Im coming leaps & bounds in mixing it with the other wino's around the world - & and all because of you Gary V - much appreciated

You make some great point, Gary. But, In my humble opinion, search terms bought as per Google AdWords will kill Twitter's popularity.

I think ONE great opportunity will be for people/experts to answer questions real time and get paid for it (rankings/ratings by users based on previous experiences will pump up people's "answer $ rates") in real time and Twitter can keep a cut. Far better than what dumb Yahoo Answers tried to do.

Ads can supplement value added services like this of course.

Totally agree Gary. It's a very smart move and especially look what Google has done with search and ads. Yeah, Twitter is a different medium but the same concepts can potentially propel Twitter into a billion (with a big fat B) dollar brand.

I'll buy the ads if they implement the technologies, 'nuff said :-)
