The "Thank You Economy" and customer service is where it's at. Once again, you boil things down to the simple words that just make sense. Thanks, Gary.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

I think many of us fall into the trap of trying to create wealth first. However, as you say, if we create true value (in terms of content, customer service, etc.) first, the 'good things' will all follow from that.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

I was thinking about something along these lines the other day. A lot of people are worrying about things like SEO and search engine marketing as ways to drive traffic, get followers, make sales, and build a business.

This is all good stuff to pay attention to and learn, but not at the sake of putting out really good, helpful, valuable content.

There are a lot of people who seem to want to skip a step and get right to the "marketing" part of things.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

More than ever people need to feel valued themselves and so business who get that will win for sure.

The way I see it consumers are as responsible for demanding good quality and service as much as the companies are responsible for providing it, two sides of a coin and we all have our role to play.

I do totally agree with you about ethics, integrity, and looking after people though, it should be something should be a natural extension of our cores selves manifest in every dealing we have -- whether it be personal or business.

Perhaps it's time to change that old verse, "Money is the root of all evil" -- maybe we could change that to; "money is the fruit of living a passionate and caring life"

Always enjoy your thoughtful comments.

Steve

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

You can just as easily gain equity in relationships as anything. And I've heard you say before Gary something like in this economy I would rather have 1 million friends than $1 million.

Thanks Gary!

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

Cars didn't break down as before.

Seen this in 1980's and it spiralled to now, as you mentioned customer service.

What really, really gets me, is how ethics, integrity, looking after customers is taught. When it should be done anyway.

That's the sad part from myself in seeing this. Things that make us all great human beings. Things that we do for our loved ones, our friends, people who buy off us. These which are in our culture and we forget them.

They not new. They just forgotten and circle come round.

Great video and loved the wisdom in the video but it's not "new." It's people lost intregity and instilled greed, and short term satisfaction.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

I had you sign my pre-ordered book at the Los Angeles Cost Plus tour location. After you spoke for 30 minutes, I wanted to thank you again, so I bought 3 more books for my brothers as holiday presents.

Today I got an email from Cost Plus saying I won a $500 gift certificate for showing up, thanking you, and buying 3 more books after hearing you speak.

Nothing like getting thanked for thanking you. What a world.

Keep crushing it.

rmg

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

I find it funny that the "old world" media people bet against the success of your book. My experience with spreading the love of social media has been that when I tell and "old world'er" to go online and watch a video by this Gary V character, they never do it. Now... hand the same person a book that they can hold in their hands, and they will have it read in a weekend (and be begging you to help them setup a Twitter account by Monday). Sometimes you just have to speak to people in their own language.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

I have been watching WLTV for a while, and that put me onto this blog with your thoughts on business/media, and I've watched your presentations. I know what you think. And I got that education for free. And when you started promoting your book, the ONE THING you did that sold me was when you said, "If you've ever liked anything I've done, please get this book." I had no expectation of learning new stuff from this book. I knew that I already had a handle on your views, advice, and the way you think. I bought the book to say Thank You, for all the great stuff. And once again, you nailed it. Damn.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

How much of my novel do I put out there for the world to see for free and how much do I hold back for the print version that I want people to buy? Interesting questions. I think I have to give a lot more away before I start asking for my thank you.

E. I bought 3 copies of Crush It, not because it directly applies to my business (however I'm going to try to redirect some of the strategy towards it) but because of how you've changed and added value to my wine drinking and collecting experience and I just generally want to see you continue to succeed. I've watched hundreds of WLTV episodes for free, I've bought cases of wine that I would have never given a chance before and ended up loving them..all from FREE advice, so yes, my 3 copies are a "thank you" for that.
@golfturtle

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.

I think they will buy it because they like your message, may be motivated by it, find it personally relevant and want to see what else you have to say -- and in a different delivery medium.

Why will I get and read the book? For the above reasons plus the personal connection from having met you in person at the August NYC Social Media for Social Good Conference.

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Thank You Economy.
