Gary Vaynerchuk: Gary Vaynerchuk - The Personal Brand Gold Rush is going on, where...

Good ish, Gary... Straight and to the point -- nothing like your other videos ;-) I'll be spreading the word, boss. You work on closing those 300+ IM windows (haha!).
  • Withnail · 1 year ago
Great stuff! Thanks for the important reminder.
  • Daynah · 1 year ago
Thanks for the encouragement Gary! I'll get started on my videos now. :)
  • Ryne Nelson · 1 year ago
All I have to say is 'wow!' Too often, the Internets gets billed as an infinite space with zero barriers to entry. I agree, the pieces to your particular niche's pie are finite. Go claim what's left!
  • Dale Cruse · 1 year ago
My brother, I respectfully disagree that this is a limited commodity like gold was in California back in the day. There was physically a finite amount of gold available then, but there is endless opportunity today for personal branding. In this case, there's always room at the top.
  • Ed Roberts · 1 year ago
I certainly agree. While you could argue that there is endless opportunity in personal branding, getting in NOW is of utmost importance. Not because you won't be able to have an impact in the future, but because it gets more and more difficult to stand out from the crowd as more people get involved. To take a quote from a recent Disney movie... "once everyone is a superhero, no one will be a superhero." It has some merit. What will you do to stand out NOW?

I've been working hard for 3 1/2 years. Every day, 1100+ podcasts, and I'm just now seeing the fruits start to bud with business contacts coming in. And that's with the easiest thing to find on the internet. Weather. But time is short, and I'm already starting to fight the uphill battle as I haven't been as fast on the upswing as I should be.

As Gary said... do it now. Don't wait.
  • STHayden · 1 year ago
haha... fester is totally the wrong word!

I would love a daily 5 minute fake sportscenter. Ugh.

Just too expensive... and no revenue for now.
  • gaeyia · 1 year ago
Loving that you'll be here in PDX to talk about all of this tonight!
  • Kyle A Koch · 1 year ago
It's fitting that i find this on the day I actually put some effort into getting my blog up and running. I have put this off for far too long, and I hate being a "creeper" on the internet just absorbing information and doing absolutely nothing with it. I'm sick of it, and it stops today. Thank you Gary.
  • Laura Pritchard · 1 year ago
Gary, I have to say I love your personal brand! If I had even 1/2 as much of your enthusiasm...
  • Randy Ksar · 1 year ago
Very tru Gary! I thought of branding my web site as my consulting company name RMK Digital but instead went for "The Life of DJ Ksar". Having a voice on your web site or blog builds trust and honesty with your community.
  • Jim Kukral · 1 year ago
Word up. I think a lot of it has to do with fear and money, or lack thereof. You are right of course.

Alf season II was the best season ever, lol.
  • Paul Ocal · 1 year ago
So say you want a personal brand, but suck at public speaking. Then what?
  • Nicolas · 1 year ago
Paul Ocal, watch the previous movie...
  • Roni · 1 year ago
I'm DOING IT! Great video, so glad to find ya.
  • Milos · 1 year ago
Strike while the iron is hot...well said, it is important to get whatever you can today instead of tomorrow and you are a living example of that...seize the day! :)

On the other hand, I think that no one can take your personal brand away from you as that's who you are. Identity theft could be a problem, but that's only a masked portrayal of yourself, not real you.

    Have a great day people!
  • Nick Yecke · 1 year ago
why can't I grab the embed code for these videos?!!!!!
  • matt warren · 1 year ago
Alf Season 2!!! That's the quote of the day Gary. Love it -- forwarded this onto a lot of my friends who CAN and SHOULD have more of a presence online but are still scared to jump in. Not sure why....

New to Wine Library and now I am HOOKED! I don't even drink wine!
Can you discuss some of the tools you use to produce your blog? to help out a newbie?
Like - type of video camera, stored on viddler?, WordPress?, how much customizing is done on the site, etc.
  • tartangeek · 1 year ago
Hey Gary interesting video. All sorts of discussion topics from it.

Gary, I started up my website, because of my passion for wine, but I am stuck between work and the world. I work for a distributor, so every time I say something bad about one of our wines, I get lectured about, I don't take it down, but I still get lectured. I'm just trying to find my voice and you are always encouraging... thanks.

there are 90,000 tech shows. There's one wine show.

There are no house fixer upper shows.

    There are few cooking shows.

    Gary,

Does it have to be video? What about internet radio??? Thoughts??
  • Alexey · 1 year ago
Something still gets to me though. I haven't gone through every single video on wine library TV so this may be completely redundant but here goes. I've noticed that many sites, including Wine Spectator don't mention wines from a certain country: Georgia. I know for a fact that they produce several wines with grapes indigenous to the region. One type in particular is called Kvanchkara. Is there a reason Georgia isn't on the list at these sites, and perhaps even Wine Library tastings?
  • Kyle · 1 year ago
    Gary!

I've been watching your vids for a few months now and love them.

I wanted to ask a favor (we can take this into private email if you want).

I play in a band called ThunderPants here in Houston and I would LOVE it if you could find some way to send us 5 of the "Bringing the Thunder" wristbands. If you can, I'll make sure to get photos (or at least some decent video footage) of us rocking the shit out of things with your kickass wristbands. We could even find some hardcore WWF figurines to put on stage, though I'm not sure how well they'd hold up to the power of rock that is ThunderPants.

We are a rock coverband, but if you want I'm sure we could find someway to record a special clip for your show. Or I could just scream AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGHHH OAK MONSTER into the mic during one of our recorded gigs and send that. I dunno.

I love what you do and I'd love to get my hands on a bunch of those Bringing the Thunder wristbands if possible. I'll pay shipping or whatever you need. Please let me know.

    -Kyle

    Gary,

You are a true visionary. We all need to "step up" and take the FIRST spot in our niche. I'm working on it, but it takes a little time.

One question. How often do you think we should launch a new video on our blogs?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Gary, you inspire and motivate me. I think its like only 10% of what we hear that we actually retain but your enthusiasm and passion causes me to comprehend much much more than 10%!

    Gary,

Your show is amazing and it has done wonders. I may only be 19 but my parents are always asking me for a good wine choice now because i watch your show and they know that some how I know my wines.

P.S. Dont worry I dont drink it with them.

Gary, Nice job on CNN's Open House. What was the specific Douro wine from Portugal that you were heralding for $10? I failed to write it down and it's not in the transcript. Thanks.

Gary, why is it we could see before your tasting at Crush Pad began. Then when it was over, we could see and hear you off to the side talking with guests. But while the tasting was going on, about 30 of us were in Revision3 #7 and we could only chat with each other in the DARK. What happened? We want wristbands. Love ya!

    Gary,
I had seen Wine Library before (with a 10 year old Imac) and the speed of my video made your show almost painful to watch. I recently had to upgrade my hardware (new Mac) and today I had an epiphany. I have seen the new face of wine in the 21st century and his name is not Robert Parker.
I believe you are doing more single handedly to take the snob out of wine and to promote fine wine than anyone I have seen (or heard of). Wine is to be shared with friends and great wine shared with friends that might appreciate what is being poured-A big fat tip of the hat to you.
    Salute'

I will try to do this in five sentences. (Minus the parenthesis.)

I am a perspiring stand up comic. I started in Pro-wrestling, trained under Dory Funk Jr. (OK, that was for wrestling and I loved it, barring the pain that has followed, but I would do it again.)

Although I can write comedy, it falls under many styles that I have witnessed. (Which is actually fine as I would be thrilled to just be a writer, as I have done on radio.)

I have come upon a podcast opportunity with popular NYC comics and national guys, (Nick Dipaolo), That I pitched to Rev 3. (Turned down by Sarah Lane)

I know you can do nothing about this, but can you give advice, as I saw you on the live "Internet Superstar" and you have the best delivery of the show. (Ok, this is more than five sentences.) My idea was to film NYC comics at the comics table. (The comics table the most fun as I had at clubs, just hanging with them.) I can give a sample of that locally, and DiPaolo has green lighted me to do it with him.

How can I sweeten' the deal as well as get the Rev3's attention to distribute. Anything you have, I am sure, can help me.
  • Frank Rivers · 1 year ago
    For Garys Advice.
  • anthony petrizio · 1 year ago
i listened to your advise and bought 2 cases of inexpensive 2005 bordeaux ... when can i expect delivery ?
    thanks,tony
  • Scott · 1 year ago
Who has time to watch all these videos? I use Google Reader to scan over 150 blogs a day, between work and personal. If there is content that is only delivered in video format, I skip over it. I don't have 10 minutes to dedicate to hear/see what I could have read in 30 seconds. The only exception is when a video is personally recommended to me by a friend.

Am I that different than the rest?

Thank you for your very inspiring words!

I have a couple of questions: initially, what is the very best way to spread the word about a NEW show besides just bombarding friends, clients and associates with links? Also, we noticed that you are "powered by Viddler" in your opinion what are the advantages of Viddler over other hosting sites?

    Warm wishes to you,

Great post. I Think this is a very good point. Do you have suggestions about where to start? Set up an account on YouTube, Ustream.TV? Also, what article was that in USA Today. I was wanting to get an archive for some of the research I have been doing for school. Great video!

We am I, We are we?
    Right here: From the Couch

As soon as we (David and Marc Perel) saw your videos we took a giant leap onto the band wagon.

How has it gone so far for us? Well it has been 7 days since the launch and our stats read 2500 visits and 3000 page views.

So to me it only confirms that there is market for this type of branding and there is a huge, gaping hole in the video blogging sphere.

    What is everyone waiting for?
  • Ben Tremblay · 1 year ago
Garry, don't spread the work too much, I'm working on a show and don't want competition! ;)
  • ChrisSonjeow · 1 year ago
I know this is a little older but sometimes we, in the tech community, don't realize how far ahead we are when it comes to producing content.

Most people, those sportcenter nuts, babysitters, sushi chefs, don't have the first idea when it comes to production...and it's too overwhelming.

Sure, they may start something but they soon realize that it's not quite up to par, they realize that it takes a sh*t-ton of work and they usually quit.

It takes a special breed of person to do it consistently, and the bar has already been set high.
  • Kevin DaSilva · 11 months ago
    Gary,

Dude you could be speaking more my language. Guy I am coming out with a show soon and i would love to run it by you because honestly its scary how much with think alike...

And that couldn't make me happier because bro you are so ahead of the pack its not even funny. These other douchbags are still pushing to "Be an EXPERT" and to "Sell Info Products" which steers everyone down a path of Overwhelment (yeah I just made that shit up), non-stop training which requires spending $1000's and 1000's of hours (which is what "they" want) and I was one of the followers.

Until I realized that I wasn't doing what I loved. But dude I sincerely would love to "chat it up" because I come from the IM (internet marketers space) and my system is right in line with what you say but also shows the many ways to monetize.

And you can fully expect to get a link to this blog in every single post, article, video I release because no one says it better than you bro.

I bet your ass can't wait for another year or two to pass by so you can be known as the guy that was so ahead of the game "predicting the future" and yelling it as loud as possible so anyone with a ounce of motivation could take it and run right to the top.

Dude your sick and I am your #1 Marketing Follower.

  • ASKJDOG · 5 months ago
Personal brand question.. If I already have a following that I'm developing, but the brand name doesn't describe it.. ASKJDOG (for example providing dating and lifestyle advice for men) prior to ramping things up with mass video distribution, would it be better to rebrand to a name that instantly tells people what your videos are about.. THEDATEDOC.TV (just an example.)

Granted if you have an established brand, the name can be non-descriptive, but for brand building doesn't it help. I know this has been discussed in the tech community (techcrunch, and mashable articles,) but I'm thinking for people’s personal branded services it makes sense. Is there any point for a small time guy to go through the hassle of re-branding? Or is it a waste of time, because once your social media is out there more your non-descriptive brand will be associated automatically? What do you think? Thnx.
  • Linda Hayles · 4 months ago
Gary I see you were CRUSHING it here... A YEAR AGO! Damn! Do you still live in that same place? The camera is different and the background I haven't seen in any other of your videos.

I'm SO THERE! Keep putting it out! PASSIONATELY! I've been doing it since the 1st day I heard you and IT IS WORKING FOR ME!

When I write a book you will write the foreword, brother! I freaking love you to death!
  • Lance Gross · 4 months ago
I LOVE that you keep hammering the idea of finding "your" niche and if you're PASSIONATE about it then that's what counts!!

    Thanks Gary!!

    Really appreciate you---
