For personal brands its all about .com & .me or .country
  • Jordan Drake · 1 year ago
I'm a junkie when it comes to domain names - I own my own .com in like 5 different configurations:-)
  • Cheap Wine · 1 year ago
I'm still not convinced yet. Nice note at the end about relationships though. Got to keep focused on what really matters.

I would have to agree with this....i think the .tv will be the next big domain name extension :)
  • Justin · 1 year ago
Gary, cool thought. Maybe I should have done that with The Hockey Card Show.

    Hmm GoDaddy here I come.

    Oh LOVE the touque!

I was a little bitter about not being able to get ryanstephens.com, though I intend to make the guy a couple of offers on it.

I think the -real shit- as Gary puts it, is the fact that he's straight pimpin' a beanie inside with a fly dress shirt.

    Thanks for the tip Gary!

    Ditto that.
  • bryan thompson · 1 year ago
Good thoughts, Gary. I just registered bryanthompson.tv

Absolutely agree with you 100% G-Man. I have the .com and .tv for my name. Not really doing much with either of them yet but I'm a domain hoarder... I have some of the craziest domain names.

You didn't get back to me on my Xmas list idea btw. The cheek of it... That was my gift to you!

Thanks again for the inspiration Gary! Always full of ideas after watching you

My fear is that they are going to just keep creating domain extensions and one day people will be clamoring for www.yourname.gastrointestinalproblems.
  • TheInfamousGdub · 1 year ago
Good call. However, if you're not going to be doing any sort of video content, it doesn't seem to really fit. Yet, the alternatives are not great either.

    I get what you're saying.
  • Sharon · 1 year ago
Nice hat. Funny you should mention. I wanted bloviatrix.com and found it was taken but not used by some guy in Texas and was expiring this month (Dec). I called him and he wouldn't give it up. Not only that, after I called, he bought .net and .info as well. What a dick. However, maybe not .tv...

What do you think about ICANN opening up the namespace...? will we see a dotwinelibrary? big opportunities or just more confusion? They are predicting some 200ish new GTLDs over the next 5 years. Would be really interested to have your views on this subject, cos its a big one, gonna have a big impact on the WWWski!

Am loving the GVNC videos - content rich - rich content- keep em coming!

Just picked up my name in .tv form

I can't get my name in .com form (davidturnbull.com) because the owner wants six figures (I've tried contacting him multiple times over the past couple of years) but I'll soon own my name with a - in between. :)
  • Britt Selvitelle · 1 year ago
    Gary,

Always interesting to hear your talk about personal equity. Is there a reason you registered garyvaynerchuk.com instead of vaynerchuk.com?

Do you think having the first name in the domain particularly important for recognition?
  • Bobby Bo · 1 year ago
Great follow up to yesterday. There is at least one person who is ahead of you on both counts, Billy Mays the "Oxy clean" guy. He is like the Gary Vaynerchuk of useless junk, and already has a .tv and contracts to sell EVERYTHING. I even caught him selling health insurance on TV today. The question is, do I get two policies for the price of one and free laser guided scissors if I call now? How can anyone top free laser guided scissors... Wristbands :)
  • Jason Quintin · 1 year ago
I totally agree however a possible 2nd place option if your name is taken, is do what i have done for years. First Middle.. Unless our middle name is Francis and your uncomfortable with that.

I'm sold, but have no time to make videos cause too busy watching your awesome videos, especially the wine expert ones.
  • Alexander Feiglstorfer · 1 year ago
    Love your videos gary.

I was trying to buy the domain www.runr.com and the seller wanted 30.000 Dollars for it :(

A .com Domains are not easy to get. Especially if it's short. I hate Domainparkers, I think they are criminal.
  • Sash · 1 year ago
Gary, spot on video. In my opinion these are the only 4 TLDs worth registering for business or personal branding.

    .com
    .net
    .tv
    .eu (for european companies)

i have no idea why some people think .me is cool - seems pretty lame to me.
  • David Dadekian · 1 year ago
Not sure I entirely agree with you on the .tv thing. I think short term it's a great idea. I think long run (and I mean really long run), TV is an antiquated notion. Maybe not for 10-20 years, but maybe .vid would be a better extension.
  • Bloggeries · 1 year ago
Makes sense about the .TV and just called Grandma today; it's her Bday so timely reminder.
  • David · 1 year ago
I recently tried to buy my name with a .COM, .NET, .ORG, and .TV but they're all taken! Might I add my name isn't that common so I'm building a brand and buying the .TV for that brand instead :)
  • Daniel Kemp · 1 year ago
OK I was looking at Go Daddy and their .tv domains are $24.89 a year. I went to Namecheap.com and their .tv domains are $17.99 a year.

I looked around for coupons and all I could find were ones for .com domains but none for .tv domains. So I think Namecheap.com is the best place to go for .tv domains.
  • digitaldean · 1 year ago
Already purchased my own .com recently. Just roughed up a quick blog that I am working on updating. (tech stuff for present/potential clients, plus stuff I'm passionate about...wine, PACKERS, vintage WWII airplanes, etc)

Excellent point about the .tv. Previous poster is correct...namecheap.com is cheaper than GoDaddy even if you use coupon codes.

Just have to see if the world is ready to see my ugly mug on video!

Gary, this is the exact coaching that you gave to me in our consuling session. You will be happy to know that markmatson.tv is up and running. I am taking on all of the lies and garbage that is being propagated by the financial world and helping investors navagate threw all the garbage out there. Thanks for all of your help.

    HI gary,
    got to you via skelliwag.org.
You're afunny and very smart guy. I need an assist in finding an e-commerce platform that can track AFFILIATE Sales.

We are in a big niche market [Christians into their historical biblical roots in the Holy Land, from biblical to modern day story telling,] and have had some potential affiliates reach out to us.

We are having a hard time finding the right platform. We do not want to buy a software program and run it ourselves...

    thanks,

    Steve Deitel

  • Julian · 1 year ago
i'm not sold 100%, but i always love your passion gary!
  • Kerel Cooper · 1 year ago
Agreed. I recently purchased my name .com, .net and .tv
  • Andrew Mager · 1 year ago
I need my dot tv still.
  • Milos · 1 year ago
As I already own my .com domain I have to agree with you that it is the #1 domain to own personally if possible (name uniqueness permitting). Also, we shouldn't solely focus on the domains as much as content produced/delivered.
  • Nathan · 1 year ago
I'm lucky enough to have an uncommon name, but for some reason never thought about the .tv Guess I should pick it up.
  • Angel · 1 year ago
Don't forget about GoDaddy's backorder service which basically let's you grab up a domain as soon as it becomes available. I believe they also have a service of theirs that you can use to have GoDaddy negotiate with the current domain squatter to purchase the domain from them.
  • Adam Strong · 1 year ago
Hi Gary great advice. How crazy is it that people who work day in and out on the internet don't own their own name in .com by now ? btw are you friends with Richard Rosenblatt from Demand Media. He should be sending you a check for that ringing endorsement. Lastly, I think a lot of people are looking to the .me extension as well for personal branding.
  • Jerad Hill · 1 year ago
10% off your order use code "jerad1" or .Com for $7.49 use "jerad3"
  • Shawn_944 · 12 months ago
Outstanding 1 minute and 59 seconds!
  • rosshill · 12 months ago
I just ordered mine - I don't have the .com but I'm sure it will pay off in time. Thanks
  • translation services · 12 months ago
well, this does not only apply to .tv you should own as many domins as possible for your name
  • Paul · 11 months ago
Great advice. I can honestly say it never occured to me to own my own name but you've opened my eyes. It makes great sense. It also has other connotations to it, for example it's a committment of self belief in what we are trying to accomplish.
    Thanks
    Paul

Don't most people associate TV with the "old" TV format? Gary, owning your name.tv is great but not right for most people with more common names. I don't think watching web videos is necessarily associated with .tv. It's getting out of hand when you go to GoDaddy for instance and wonder wether you should also buy .name, .me, .mobi, .info. .net .org and .tv if your name is not available in .com then try .tv or even better, the fast growing .mobi I woudl actually recommend particularly for the "John Smith" crowd to create a brand new name that fits your personality and goals and turn it into your online persona with the .com
    Best

Gary that's a great idea and something that I'll be implementing myself as soon as I make this post.

I was reading an interesting article on the founder of Digg and how in this same way you're talking about, you could basically own your own TV station (Youtube), your own newspaper (Blogs), your own radio station (Podcasts), your own distribution company, etc etc, by setting up a major online presence.

Basically you become your own little media empire without all the big brick and mortar media empire overhead costs.

    Awesome stuff Gary, Love It!
