Gary Vaynerchuk: Gary Vaynerchuk - In the Trenches Bitches Gary Vaynerchuk gets...

  • Bryan Roth · 11 months ago
So true! You have reiterated this over and over to the people. It's time to start in the trenches bitches.
  • C.C. Chapman · 11 months ago
Every one wants a short cut around hard work and at the end of the day there are very few short cuts. Well said as usual my friend.
  • Derrick Schommer · 11 months ago
So, what I'm hearing is "do the leg work I did a few years ago." There is some truth to that, I've contemplated how easy I'd get traffic if I just asked you to shout out my video podcast but there is a lack of reward to doing it that way.

Sure, there is always a nice shout out, but I don't want to actually request it. It just seems like I'm cheating the system, why did you have to build up your reputation while others can springboard off it for free?

Of course, I'd never complain about free publicity but there is an extreme sense of accomplishment taking something from a small bud and having it blossom to something excellent. Plus, you could shout out a few shows that are simply bad or something nobody really wants to watch. In that case, it damages your reputation a bit (in my eyes). If you like a video podcast then you should pimp it, but if you're just doing it because you were asked... well that's just not as good.

The cream will rise to the top, right? I..want..to be the cream? Hmm, that doesn't sound good but you kinda get what I'm say'n.
  • Jeremy Nelms · 11 months ago
Damn, this is seriously great video, Gary. I've been having an absolute blast interacting with you and other people at Twitter.

Speak the truth and KILL IT!

The bottom line is that people will always want to shortcut, no matter what it is. It doesn't apply only to an online business, it applies to life in General. People who win are the people who don't quit or quit at the right time and do something else.
  • Bobby Bo · 11 months ago
The only short cut your going to get in the trenches is with a bayonet! Let the strong survive! Thanks G.
  • Alamo · 11 months ago
I found Gary's show from other people trading equities on twitter. I am always asked how to trade, and then very few actually take me up my suggestion that they just study charts for hours on end. No one is willing to put the YEARS of study in. Gary's enthusiasm is so unbelievably infectious. I've got two friends now starting their ideas just because I force them to watch Gary's web 2.0 video. PUT the time in now peeps BEFORE the economy turns around. As a trader I will know months in advance when the TURN will come, as I will see many charts setting up. I will report back when that happens....ciao all!

Gary my man!! You are pumping out the good shit as always. It just like I say with training its all about being in the trenches, there are to many "trainers" out there that whine and complain and want this and that, but they dont get in the trenches and just do it!

    Love it bro!

  • johnkoetsier · 11 months ago
The problem, of course, is that hard work is so dreadfully unglamorous and ... uh ... hard.

    :-)

Like the vidpost ... that is just the right length of content for video on your blog.
  • jtGraphic · 11 months ago
The only shortcuts are brand equity and cash. Everything else is work. Even cash and brand equity have to be earned along the way... let me revise that. There are no short cuts. Just get out there and work it.
  • Crackle · 11 months ago
Yes, thank you for that. You can't fake social media...it begins with the word "social" for a reason. You cannot be afraid to talk to anyone and everyone surrounding your subject matter. To quote one of them most influential motivational speeches I have ever heard: Smurf if up!
  • MattWilsontv · 11 months ago
It's not about shameless promotion on Twitter, taking the shortcuts, getting the big guys to promote you stuff.

Building a social media show is just like building a business; there's no get rich scheme. It takes hard work and commitment day in and day out.

Building these shows is based around networking. It's not about firing out a quick couple tweets, it's about developing actual in depth relationships with people who truly like your content. This is the type of networking that's going to get you to the next level, build your show, and build your business!
  • David Perel · 11 months ago
This is exactly what we do for 'From the Couch' - within 4months we are generating some cool hype and good viewership figures... plus we pump out a show EVERYDAY.

Soon we will be pushing the trenches theory to the next level.

    Gary stay tuned :)

    Ya Gary.

You have said it a bunch of times before: Content & Hustle.

I just don't think a lot of people will do what you did for 18 months straight.

But you are proof what 18 months of hard work can do.

    Thanks Gary.

    Daniel
  • Chris Sonjeow · 11 months ago
I've discovered over the past few years a very specific formula for a successful video show and I know that I've made more mistakes than I can count.

But you wanna know the secret?

Credibility. Content is fine and all, but if your content doesn't support your credibility - you're Sh*t and you gotta live with that. I don't listen to you, Gary, because I have this huge need to watch another man drink and spit wine. I watch you because you turned a 2 mil business into a 40 Mil business. I watch you because you've done it and I TRUST WHAT YOU SAY.

In the end, I'm fine with people trying to find that silver bullet/miracle pill/$125 Solution - Know why? Cause that only leaves the door open to get the job done right.

The game is all about learning, adapting and hustle. You get those things right, and you're on your way.
  • SpinelessLuke · 11 months ago
    people people people,
If anyone wants me to check out their blog, vlog, site or whatever.
Send me a link on twitter @TheLukas
I shall read/watch everything i'm sent, and maybe even pass it on.
Otherwise, i'm not advertising my twitter, so don't just add me for the sake of it.
I'm not looking to boost my numbers, i'm looking for something to read.

    Gary, once again, great video.
    Keep on inspiring the masses.

The potential downside is working on something for years that never takes off.

You can minimise that downside by working on something you believe in!
  • DaleK · 11 months ago
If some wine dude (even if it is @garyvee) is pimping some wrestler dude's vblog I'm not likely to pay attention anyway - aside from maybe thinking to myself, "wtf!!?? Why's he spamming me?" In fact, I guess it's even harder for you to do things like that as people tend to know what you're about and what you're into. So, some out of left field recommendation is going to seem disingenuous.

The only way I would consider it to be anything other than spam is if I knew it was something the you were genuinely interested in.

IMO it seems a bit rude for people to even ask that of you. Then again maybe it just demonstrates a lack of understanding.
  • Derek Halpern · 11 months ago
@Chris First things first. You watch GaryVaynerchuk.com because he has credibility. When he first started Wine Library TV, he didn't have any credibility on the internet for Wine. He built it over 18 months.

@Gary You need to stop stressing "leave comments." People hear that and go and leave "nice post" on comments and think they contributed to the conversation. They do it because it's easy and they take the shortcut. However, what people really need to do is, read the post and leave a 3 paragraph comment. Something that adds value, not just some quick "nice post" that obviously looks like you're scavenging for links.
  • Kelly Olexa · 11 months ago
Good LORD it is so tiring to see how many people are out there hoping to 'get rich quick' in some way "without the work"- get over it and move on, people. If you aren't willing to INVEST in people and relationships, regardless of your business, you will not succeed. Period. What are your intentions? Trying to cheat the system, ride on someone else's coattails? If you want people to listen to what you have to say, GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO LISTEN TO.

My personal belief is that our intentions and attitude in business, and in our personal life, will determine our outcomes. If you are genuinely passionate about what you do and about investing in people and long term relationships and in HELPING others rather than pushing for a quick buck now, you will excel. It will happen. You don't need someone to point you out- that's the beautiful thing about Social Media - let people DISCOVER YOU. When they do, word spreads, if you have that content. If you have NOTHING to offer, the biggest name in the world pimping your blog or site won't make you any bank, get over that idea!!

GV every time I watch your vlogs I'm saying AMEN TO THAT over here. And here I go again: YOU ROCK.

    ;-)

You hit the nail on the head Gary!

I spent several years learning, busting butt, hustling in html, php, and all the fun web design/development stuff - on my own, through school working to support a family. Spent several years creating small-mid size sites for small businesses in a small town.

Finally took a position that paid well - it all paid off for a time. Now I have moved on and not sure where to - but you know what? I know what works - hard work, hustling and getting out there to do my thing the best I can.

Thanks for the video and reinforcement that the basic principles are still just that, and it still takes "work" to truly make something worthwhile!

Yo I'm huge fan an entrepreneur right out of college. Our business is Advance Marketing and Web Development. We have a fun website called YouWont.tv. Check it out and if you like it let me and your viewers know what you think
  • WillReinier · 11 months ago
GV isn't dropping any new information...it's a shame that people are looking for the easy way in...do the work, HUSTLE.

If you've listened to Gary at ALL you would know that this doesn't come overnight. No one was there to Tweet Wine Library, this man did it the right way. Why can't you?

No one is going to do it for you...not Gary V, not Tony Robbins...speaking of TR, check out what he's peddling now, reinier44.wordpress.com

Great video ya know whats funny is until yesterday I did not even think that hard about not leaving comments on places I go when you can leave a comment.

After thinking about what you said I now think I will be making a bigger effort to leave comments when able.

    thanks

"In The Trenches Bitches!!" Too funny. Honestly I don't want any handouts. I am pretty much scrapping from the bottom up. I want people finding me. I don't want to chase after anyone. The only way for that to happen is to be the best at what you do. Stay in the trenches people!!
  • Jason Zimmerman · 11 months ago
I've been trying to build my own web show and what you are saying as always is 100% spot on.

It is hard work to market your brand and get people to take notice and it is a long and slow process.

Patience is the hardest thing to have...but hard work and patience we will have success.
  • digitaldean · 11 months ago
Gary, it is amazing how the word "patience" is frowned upon. In this "microwave" (thanks previous poster "Susan") mentality world, too many people want the instant solution and fame.
It's a tough slog and you have to have the will to put up with the setbacks that will crop up.
    Back to the grind!
  • suikagirl1 · 11 months ago
Key words, kids... (did you catch that?) *HUGE* key words: Become a part of your community!!! Be proactive = Hustle 2.0... YOU are what's going to make people want to find you and stay!

    Hi Gary,

You have hit the nail on the head.

There are no real shortcuts, you have to hustle and believe in yourself.

Interesting to see it took you 18 months of producing a show every day, there is definitely a lesson to be learnt there.

    Cheers

GaryV is serious when he says that it will easily take over a year before anyone gives a shit about your content.

How many bloggers have you seen come and go within the last year alone? Do you think people have time or patience to follow every new blog only to watch it disappear a few months later when the blogger has nothing left to say? The secret is consistency. Be consistent about when you post and what you talk about.

I produce New Media Marketing content on my vlog at http://www.seovice.com I invite you all to check it out, comment, participate and get involved!

    Cheers!

Ha! I just started a video blog and I cannot/will not edit. My first episode was filmed outside at the ocean here in Maine, handheld, background noise, you name it. It was totally this style. At first, I was like, "Whaa! It's so amaturish! It's not slick enough!" but now I think it was all about getting in the trenches! Thanks for the confidence boost man, fuck tripods!

Awesome. I see that all the time also. It takes 2 years to get a brick & mortar out of the red (on average)....and folks just expect immediate gratification with no work involved. Lazy.

you're always totally right Gary. I've been working on building my blog audience for the last 6 months, and I've only recently learned the trick. Participate on twitter, participate in the community of other blogs, and you'll find people who will be interested in what you have to say.
  • Elizabeth Kaylene · 10 months ago
It's so true. Nothing happens overnight. It's definitely helpful when someone who is "trusted" Tweets you or links you up on their blog, but you have to be able to back it up. Pumping out content is definitely the way to go.

I've had people visit my sites just because they've read my comments on other people's blogs and sites.

I'm actually getting ready to start a blog and web show (as soon as I finish a couple other projects), so if you have any other tips I'd love to hear them!
  • Sue Adams - Candles Off Main T · 10 months ago
So true, Gary, and we're hoping it comes true for us. We have a LONG way to go, but we're following your advice and workin' it.

So sorry we missed you in NY. We were just there yesterday but had to leave before the storm.

Ever since I saw your YouTube video about the Web 2.0 Expo NY, I've been glued to you. I love how straight forward you are and most of the advice you have to give is very useful. Some of the videos I found on Bukisa got me energized and moving my projects forward in a different direction. I'm going to be checking back here often. I asked Gary this exact question the other day as I'm interested in starting a nursing blog about the day to day grind of nursing, but couldn't figure out a business angle to it that would someday make some moolah for the murseman!! His response, a one liner.. get in the blogs.. At first I was like, damn, see he is big time now and doesn't have time to answer emails anymore.. Then, a few seconds later, it all made sense.. So.. while I have NO CLUE what I am going to do, I at least know, its time to jump in the waters and swim with the fishes baby... coming soon to a nursing world near you!!

I've noticed that most self help books and business books tend to sell the illusion of quick and easy victories. "How to build a Fortune 500 company in just 10 minutes!" As a result, they tend to have the quality and insight of something scratched into the wall of a public restroom. I like that Gary does not sugarcoat things. If he wrote a business book, it would probably be called something like "The Long, Painful Road to Success". The title alone would scare most people off. But it would be worth reading.
  • Christian · 10 months ago
This has been an intense subject for me lately...it's been coming up everyday. Everyone wants a shortcut, and the irony is that they spend so much effort trying to find the trick that they could've just built the damn business they want in the meantime. It's exactly what my post here is about ; http://www.myonehundredthings.com/2009/01/short...
