Gary Vaynerchuk: Gary Vaynerchuk - Fowa 2009 Keynote My keynote in Miami @ Fowa...

  • Jake Lumetta · 9 months ago
you frickin rocked the keynote. Best line "Twitter is not a marketing plan" - everyone went silent like "oh shit". haha - anyway keep doing your thing.
  • Ryan Stephens · 9 months ago
"The people willing to get obnoxiously dirty are going to win." -- I couldn't agree more. You got to be in the trenches doing it for your peeps, not for the dinero.

Per usual, Gary rocks, and spreads the message everyone needs to hear!
  • ridsy · 9 months ago
Nice Work - Slayed it - shame the sound was a bit shabby. Nice shiny shirt though :-)

I feel good because I live with dirty hands, I hussle and I am not a douchebag suck face half skilled scumbag. 10 years of bangin on and on and on.

    and on

    and on

Started a o part time gig 2 years ago - worked 7pm to 11pm every night at home learning, hustling, learning, hustling.

Went out on my own 4 months ago right in the middle of a market shit fight. Didnt even resign. QUIT MY JOB,

To all the dudes I worked with at the big corporates who walked around with their folders looking important.......FUCK YOU

Now I am forging ahead and it is paying off. Everything I touch turns to gold whilst others seem to be panicking and their businesses are turning to shit. Love Niche - Hate corporate.

Thanks Gary (or as we would call you here in Oz......GAZ or CHUCKA)
  • davidreckles · 9 months ago
I could hardly sleep I was so jazzed. You rocked, I am still pumped! You are the Jim Rome of the web - real as it gets.

My two favorite takes - Tipping Point comment and your CARE Marketing strategy.

You have the passion, it shows, and it works.

    Thanks!

    big ups!

p.s. So glad you are on disqus now. Leaving comments via wordpress or other commenting systems is a total drag. Disqus is the way to go.

I was there, and it's still awesome to here the second time around. It was awesome to meet you, and hear your insight. I've been seriously reminded about my own passion, and I've started back on it. Thanks a bunch!
  • theprivileges · 9 months ago
I agree with Cory. The whole event really helped me get back into what I love doing. Gary, watching you in person is way way better than just watching you on video, people can feel how exciting you are. It was great watching you man.
  • DavidTurnbull · 9 months ago
Another awesome keynote. The camera movement was nauseating though :P
  • claudgrrl · 9 months ago
Thanks for posting the keynote, Gary.
You hit it bang on with people cannot be complacent and just cruise along.

When you are doing what you are passionate about, it shows and excites others, and it will seem effortless. Not giving up and not making excuses (ie. the economy) is key. There are so many available resources out there and networking opportunities, you just need to figure out what you want and just do it.

People strive so hard to keep up with the Jones' and keep up their "image", and wonder why they are working so hard and getting nothing out of it. Do what you want and wealth and satisfaction will follow.

    Cheers

Aaaww, the comments didn't get filmed. I am the guy in the front row that asked you when you were going to buy the Jets. I think you're selling yourself short -- shouldn't take you 25 years to get there! But the "fuck the NFL" followup was priceless.
  • Chris Dunn · 9 months ago
awesome message bro... the people who catch on to this stuff now are gonna have a HUUUGE advantage over the masses.
  • Stephan Barrett · 9 months ago
Good discussion Gary. We're in a financial cleansing. Passion plus a plan = success. I like your analysis of big media and their challenges. Individuals creating content with an influence will run away with the advertising dollars.

    Keep on rockin'.

"Do what you love. Love your damn family and crush it." Words to live by...

Great stuff Gary. Glad I was there to witness it.
  • Melanie · 9 months ago
In the last few days, I have heard every and anything you have posted and I am happy to report I have done more with my idea than I have in months! Thanks for moving me! We will celebrate with you when you buy the Jets!

Great work, as usual. I just wish whoever filmed it had included the questions!
  • lruettimann · 9 months ago
I'm ready to see some hustling. It's long overdue.
  • WineHarlots · 9 months ago
    Great keynote!
  • @smiams · 9 months ago
Two words: "FACE....OFF!!!" Very nice work. "Passion is undefeated." It's like spiked-juggernaught-kevlar-body armor, and everyone owns a set. You just need to have the courage to put it on, and kick some ass.
  • Jared Goralnick · 9 months ago
Way to rock FOWA, Gary....wish I could've seen it live...but totally looking forward to more at SXSW!
  • Brandon · 9 months ago
Passion. That's the name of the game. To many people not hustling and getting lost. People need to focus more rather than twittering crap all day like "taking my dog out to crap right now" I could care less!! There doing that instead of running a business and hustling it. Fran Tarkenton would say wrestle that bear to the ground. Tackle your business. Don't accept anything but success. Great presentation!! If that didn't motivate you, check your pulse, YOUR DEAD!!
  • Daniel Kemp · 9 months ago
This was a shorter keynote than some of your other ones, but still pretty cool.
  • ratzker · 9 months ago
Oh man, no questions and answers!
  • Stephanie Lichtenstein · 9 months ago
"I'm hustling harder bc you're in Chicago and I'm in New York and I'm an hour ahead" lol awesome :)
  • Matt Gist · 9 months ago
I'm about to go set up 100,000 wine blogs and charge a dollar for each box you'd like to put on them. ;)
  • annie · 9 months ago
So excited to get out there and Smurf it up!
  • Vanguy · 9 months ago
    Great as usual, GV!
I know you are all about content, but the A/V quality here....
    your keynotes *deserve* better "filming".
Time to take Mott on the road?
  • Farsh · 9 months ago
you rock as always. keep it up
  • TheLukas · 9 months ago
The best thing about that talk, was the half tucked in shirt.
Intentional or not. I sure as hell appreciated it.
Also, well done on the swearing, there are probably lots of people who think it wasn't necessary, and i disagree with those people. There is a time and a place for swearing, and it is apparently when Gary gives talks.
    Right
Time to go work my face off.
    Thanks for the motivation.
  • Wendy · 9 months ago
Totally irrelevant, but I love that your shirt is halfway untucked. You remind me of my little brother (even though you talk like me- with the cursing, that is).

Thanks for doing what you do. And this post totally made me think of you. http://zenhabits.net/2009/02/why-you-should-thi...

    Hi Gary,

Awesome video and great advices. You always have something that really makes me want to go ans work harder on my brand and build more quality content and be more active on social networks and register more podcasts and tape more videos - basically do all those things I postpone.

Thank you for giving me inspiration in these difficult economical times.

Fantastic keynote, Gary. The part that really stuck with me was the "apologizing to myself" segment, because I have so many projects rolling around in my space that are half-done, conceptualized, done but not being paid enough attention, that I end up looking at "Well, what will pay right now?" and everything else gets shoved to a corner.

I thought about it and, if I stay home for one evening instead of going out with folks and buying dinner nearly every night, I can save enough time to complete practically one project a week.

    Stay home and work, people!

    Gary Vee -

Choice vintage and oh so true! The world is changing in all aspects and in business across every niche. The web in general and social media is a game changer and former gurus = "gurus of what was" are either losing their authority or stumbling into the game - cool. But anyone that wants to win here has to really break it down "social" + "media" Try using the technology without investing in relationships and it would be better if you never showed up.

    Opportunity is everywhere!

The playing field is level - let's rock it!

    Gary,

I love how you bring the professional ideas and thoughts, and mix that in with casual talk, with the cursing. Some people may not like that, but I think this helps identify with you as just a regular guy, with awesome ideas.

I agree that people never lose pursuing their passion. If their goals do not work, people are still doing what they love, nonetheless. Furthermore, I like using hustling as a term not referenced as running the streets. Hustling is just showing that extra commitment to what one does. You are not afraid to go against the grain and that makes you who you are. Keep up the amazing work.
  • Dale Cruse · 9 months ago
Gary, you actually glow in this video. How do you manage to do that?
  • JMarie · 9 months ago
I've been quoting Gary all week. Too bad most of my girlfriends have no idea what I'm talking about. They just think I'm crazy. I tell 'em we gotta get dirty & crush it. They think I'm talking about a Martini with olives.

    Dude,

I think your totally blowing it when you shit on Cartier buying a print ad or a TV spot. Are website ads, maintaining twitterfeeds, dropping Seismic comments unique and valuable? Absolutely. And they are underutilized. Definitely.

But TV, print, and all other media have a role to play. Whether its reaching more people in a specific period of time or associating a brand with a pop culture moment, or many other things

For example maybe Cartier sells 80% of its watches on 4 specific weekends. It could tolerate the inefficiency in targeting a print ad in SI for efficiently timing a message to half the men in this country with a glossy picture at the perfect time of year.

Maybe I'm Coke, and being part of the fabric of America is best articulated with entertaining everyone's family and friends while they are together during the Super Bowl.

Digital advocates say that if your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. I say even though you have all the tools, sometimes you use the new ones and sometimes you just need a fucking hammer.
