All great points, especially about sleep and non-work hobbies.

As for hustling, Gary generally stresses hustling in the right direction. Like when he talks about using Twitter, he talks about using it in a focused way—not just trying to get in with everyone but getting in with the right people. He talks about getting involved in the online communities where you belong.

Effort; ongoing effort is crucial. However, it isn't king. Hustle needs direction. The old adage of 'work smarter, not harder' holds a lot of truth. I've seen many people bust their butts for a very long time and not get a parallel return on their investment in time and energy.

All the hustle in the world without a concrete plan isn't going to work. "And then what?" needs to be kept in mind. Plan; short term, medium term and long term. Set goals, set time frames, set matrix to measure by.

If you are all hustle and create a big break are you ready to take this sudden golden opportunity to the next level? Should you suddenly open a door that takes you from a start-up entity to a business with the demand of a multi-year experience of operation are you positioned to handle it? If not, the house of cards is going to come tumbling down.

Work, in the right direction, is much more production that working in every direction. Your life needs balance; family commitments, current occupation, sleep (8-10 hours), friends, proper nutrition, non-work hobbies, etc. Without out those you burn out and crater.

Good message! If you want something to happen in your life you need to MAKE it happen, and the only way to do that is to hustle! I personally don't have cable in my house and I don't waste allot of time watching TV anymore. Think about the things in your life that take up allot of your time and really isn't necessary and try to cut back on them.

hahah No way! I dunno if I could truly be a motivational speaker.

But yeah it was a good question! I was just commenting on it, and giving you my view about it.

I've got friends who make a consistent amount of money every month and they just hang out. I've got other friends who are 110% happy with their corporate jobs and their pay. In my opinion both of them "win".

I think that's what Gary is trying to get at here.. Whatever your goals are, whatever you want to do with your life, whatever your passion is.. do whatever you can possibly to reach those goals. Don't use excuses like I'm not talented, I'm not charismatic, I'm not smart enough, etc.

I agree with your views on the workaholism though, my dad is the exact same way!

(Gotta get back to crushing it! haha)
